Punakaiki, Pancake Rocks and Blowholes: A 30 minute drive north on State Highway 6. A beautiful coastal drive and 15 minute walk around Dolomite Points Pancake Rocks and blowholes (best around high tides). Along with other short walks in the Paparoa National Park, there are also horse treks, canoe hire and good swimming. Round trip through Westport (seal colony) inland to Reefton and back on State Highway 7.
Journey around the Paparoa Mountains: This mountain range stretches from Greymouth to Westport, you can circumnavigate the mountains in a day. An awesome drive that will take you through the towns of Westport and Reefton visiting the real West Coast culture as well as getting the best out of our coastal drive, visiting the Pancake Rocks and blowholes of Punakaiki.
Lake Brunner: A 30 minute drive. Visit Brunner mine site and continue on to Lake Brunner (Kotuku Pottery, fishing tours, Arnold River walk). Round trip through Jacksons then Kumara (pottery).
Hokitika: A 30 minute drive south on State Highway 6 this town of 6000 has some fantastic galleries displaying sculpture, glass, jade and local art and crafts. Hokitika is famous for it’s Wildfoods Festival held every march. This festival is so popular the town swells to 5 times its size for one weekend a year.
Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers: Only 2 hours drive south on State Highway 6 is Franz Josef Glacier, continue on for another half hour and you’ll be in Fox Glacier. You can get the best out of visiting Glacier Country as a day trip from Greymouth. Guided glacier walks and scenic flights are available and you can visit the mirror reflections of Lake Matheson in Fox Glacier. Glacier flights also available from Greymouth.
