West Coast Events

Over recent years the West Coast has become the events capital of the South Island and has many annual events that have been known to draw big crowds.

The range of events on the West Coast is incredibly varied, from festivals showcasing local wild food cuisine to internationally renowned multi-sport events the West Coast has a lot going on.

Here is a brief overview of just some of these regular events you can attend during your stay at Greymouth Seaside TOP 10 Holiday Park:

Greymouth Street Races:
On Labour Weekend every year Greymouth’s CBD is fenced off and transformed into a racing circuit for motorcycles. This attracts some of the country’s best racing enthusiasts and is a great event for the whole family. This event hosts many styles of bikes from historic relics of the past through to the high powered speed machines of today.

The Wildfoods Festival:
Hokitika is famous for the wild West Coast cuisine that is on offer during the famous Wildfoods Festival. At the festival you will find possum pies, huhu grubs, cows’ udders, Chatham Island seagulls, bull, lamb and goat testicles, gorse flower wine, gourmet garden snails and magpie pies. There is also plenty of West Coast whitebait for those not so keen to try the interesting wild foods. This festival is held annually in March.

The Speight's Coast to Coast:
This is the world’s premier multi-sport event. The Speight's Coast to Coast traverses the South Island of New Zealand from Kumara Beach on the west coast to Sumner Beach on the east coast. Over either two days (individuals or two person teams) or the one-day event (individuals only), competitors cycle 140 km, run 36 km (including a 33 km mountain stage that crosses the Southern Alps) and kayak 67km of the grade two Waimakariri River through the Grand Canyon of New Zealand, the Waimakariri Gorge. This event is held annually in February.
